The 2 euro coin issued by Portugal in 2022 is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus programme, one of the most significant educational initiatives of the European Union, providing students with the opportunity to study and exchange in different European countries. The obverse depicts Erasmus against a grid of stylised lines, symbolising the intellectual and cultural exchange between European students. The lines contain the outline of the number "35". On the right side is the date "1987-2022", the inscription "ERASMUS PROGRAMME" and the country of origin "PORTUGAL". Around the circle are 12 stars, symbolizing the European Union.
Reverse: On the reverse side is the denomination of 2 euros and an image of the map of Europe.
