This is the first special 2 euro coin issued by the country to celebrate Andorra's 20 years of membership in the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe was created in 1949 to promote European unity after the Second World War.
The Council of Europe was created on 5 May 1949 and currently consists of 47 countries, with Andorra joining on 10 November 1994. The release of this coin in 2014 marked Andorra's twentieth anniversary of membership in this international organisation.
This coin not only serves as a monetary unit, but also as a symbol of Andorra's commitment to European cooperation and its historical links with the Council of Europe.
The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of Andorra with the inscription "ANDORRA" at the top and "El Consell d'Europa" (The Council of Europe) at the bottom. The numeral "20" is clearly visible and the zero is stylized to include the 12 stars of the European Union surrounding it
