The 2 euro coin issued by Slovenia in 2022 is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus programme, one of the European Union’s most significant educational initiatives, providing students with the opportunity to study and exchange across Europe.
Established in 1987, the Erasmus programme has significantly contributed to the development of educational and cultural ties between EU countries, and this coin serves as a reminder of the importance of international exchange in building personal and professional ties among young people in Europe.
The obverse depicts Erasmus against a grid of stylised lines, symbolising the intellectual and cultural exchange between European students. The lines contain the outline of the number "35". On the right side is the date "1987-2022", the inscription "ERASMUS PROGRAMME" and the country of origin "SLOVENIJA". Around the circle are 12 stars, symbolising the European Union.
Reverse: The reverse depicts the denomination of 2 euros and an image of a map of Europe. This commemorative coin was issued on the initiative of the European Commission together with other eurozone states.
