The Malta Euro Set BU 2022 is dedicated to the Hypogeum of Ħal Saflieni, a unique underground temple complex that is one of the most important archaeological sites in Malta. The set includes all coin denominations from 1 cent to €2 in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality.
Dating from around 4000 to 2500 BC, the Hypogeum of Ħal Saflieni is an underground sanctuary and burial site carved out of limestone. It is the only prehistoric underground temple in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex is an important testimony to the early civilisation that existed in Malta.
