The 2 euro coin issued by Austria in 2005 was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Staatsvertrag (State Treaty). This treaty, signed on 15 May 1955, ended the occupation of Austria after World War II and restored its sovereignty. It was signed between Austria and the four victorious countries: the USSR, the USA, Great Britain and France, which ensured the country's independence and its neutrality in the future.
The obverse of the coin depicts a monument to the Staatsvertrag signed in 1955. The coin also bears the words "50 Jahre Staatsvertrag" (50 years of the State Treaty) with the years 1955 and 2005, and the 12 stars of the European Union are depicted in a circle.
The reverse side of the coin bears the denomination of 2 euros and depicts a map of Europe.
