Andorra is a small microstate with a population of approximately 85,294 people, of which 16.59% are over 65 years old, making them a vulnerable group in the context of the pandemic. The country's government is working hard to provide maximum protection for approximately 14,150 elderly people
Andorra issued a 2-euro commemorative coin in 2021 dedicated to caring for the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Issued as part of an initiative to support the elderly, the coin has a clear message: "Take care of our elderly" (in Catalan: "CUIDEM LA NOSTRA GENT GRAN")
The obverse of the coin depicts a young hand holding an old hand, symbolizing care for the elderly. A stethoscope is placed under the hands, and the SARS-CoV-2 virus molecules are depicted around them, highlighting the Andorran government's commitment to protecting its citizens from the pandemic. The coin also bears the name of the country - "ANDORRA" and the year of issue - 2021
The coin is presented in a luxurious numbered plastic blister.
