Founded in 988, Andorra has been an independent state since 1278 and is a diarchy ruled by two co-princes: the Bishop of Urgell and the President of France. This small principality of about 500 square kilometers and a population of about 80,000 people has become famous for its ski resorts and status as a tax haven.
In 2017, Andorra issued a special 2-euro coin dedicated to the country of Andorra and its unique geographical location in the Pyrenees. This coin is part of a series that highlights the independence and cultural heritage of the principality.
