The national anthem of Andorra was written in 1914 and officially adopted on September 8, 1921. This day is also Andorra's national holiday.
El Gran Carlemany was written by composer Enric Marfani Bons and poet Juan Benlloch i Vivo. The anthem tells the most important aspects of Andorra's culture and history, including the legend of Charlemagne liberating the region from the Moors and granting it independence
The 2-euro coin, issued in 2017, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the anthem. Its obverse depicts the first notes of the anthem with floral-style decorations on the sides. On the left are the words "Himme" and on the right "Andorra". The year of issue and the text "100 anys de l'Himme d'Andorra" (100 years of the Andorran national anthem) are inscribed at the top of the coin. The coin is issued in a limited edition of only 85,000 pieces and comes in a numbered luxury package, making it attractive to collectors.
