The Customs Union Agreement between Andorra and the European Union (EU), signed on 28 June 1990, was an important step towards Andorra’s integration into the European economic system. The agreement created a customs union primarily for industrial goods, allowing Andorra to align its trading practices with EU standards while maintaining certain fiscal advantages, such as lower VAT rates. The agreement came into force on 1 July 1991 and has since facilitated trade between Andorra and EU member states, particularly France and Spain, which it borders. To mark the 25th anniversary of this landmark agreement, Andorra issued a special €2 coin in 2015. The coin features a map of Andorra integrated into the national coat of arms, symbolising national pride and identity. Around this image are two intertwined arrows pointing to the years 1990 and 2015, which highlight the duration of the customs union. The inscription in Catalan reads: "25 aniversari de la Signatura de l'Acord Duaner amb la Unio Europea", which translates as "25th year of the signing of the Customs Agreement with the EU".
